May 13, 2012 Trying to add an existing Customer Dictionary Trying to add a customer dictionary to word 2011 for Mac. When I go to the screen in spelling and grammer that lets me add new dictionaries, the dictionary is greyed out. Add or edit words in a spell check dictionary. If you have a desktop version of Office, you can click Open in Program to add or edit words in a spell check dictionary, or you can try or buy the latest version of Office. The spelling checker compares the words in your document against the main dictionary in Office.

If someone has a word that they commonly use, but OS X Lion keeps 'correcting' to something in it's dictionary, how does the user add the word to Lion's dictionary?

Right click on the word and choose Spelling and Grammar from the list. Then select Show Spelling and Grammar.
You'll see the option to 'learn' the word (see picture).
The learned words are stored in
~/Library/Spelling/
. ~/Library/Spelling/LocalDictionary
applies to all languages and for example ~/Library/Spelling/en
only applies to U.S. English. When you press the learn button, the word is added to ~/Library/Spelling/LocalDictionary
if the spelling language is set to automatic or to ~/Library/Spelling/en
if the spelling language is set to U.S. English. If you edit the files in
Lri~/Library/Spelling/
directly, you can apply the changes by terminating the AppleSpell
process. Just quitting and reopening applications does not apply the changes.81.7k1212 gold badges175175 silver badges241241 bronze badges

Add Manual Entry In Mac Dictionary
It works not only for words but for sentences too; in my case the long fixed-form greetings used at the start and finish of messages in Japanese which are PITA to type on an iphone. :-)

In my
Info.plist
file I want to modify a Plist file on the shell which looks like this:Now I want to make it look like this using PlistBuddy, adding the
CFBundleURLSchemes
key with a string-array value (or every other value):How can I achieve this with PlistBuddy?
Assumed the array value of
CFBundleURLTypes
would be empty:By executing /usr/libexec/PlistBuddy -c 'Add :CFBundleURLTypes:0:CFBundleURLName string 'urlname-1' Info.plist
I'm able to add the dictionary into the array including it's first key/value pair:But I don't know how to get the second key, eg
CFBundleURLSchemes
with a string-array value into the same dictionary. Can anyone give me a pointer? Is this possible with PlistBuddy at all?

Unless proven otherwise, I think I cannot achieve what I wanted with plistbuddy.
I ended up using
defaults write
to modify my plist, and it works:derFunkderFunk
